This past Saturday morning I attended the graveside service of a long-time member of the Alameda congregation named Judy.

Judy was not rich or famous and she didn’t have an impressive-sounding title or hold a position of power.

But she was loved, nonetheless.

She will also be remembered fondly because she was the epitome of a servant. That was her gift – her superpower! She spent her life quietly serving others behind the scenes, doing the kinds of things for others that are needed and desired but often taken for granted.

As I stood there in the cold and rain, listening to stories of how Judy selflessly served people, I thought of this quote…
