“He Rescues and He Saves”

On Sunday, I preached on Psalm 41 and highlighted the role of integrity in overcoming the enemies of God. That psalm describes how the enemies of God attack the reputation of God’s people because character is the battlefield of spiritual fights.

This means that we Christians must pay close attention to our character and be intentional about living with the kind of moral integrity that God expects of his people.

This is exactly what Peter encourages us to do in 1 Peter 2:12: “Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.”

Our integrity glorifies God and helps others, even those opposed to God, see the goodness of God.

It can also turn the hearts of others to God.

We see an example of this in Daniel’s story.

After God saves Daniel from the lion’s den – and remember, Daniel was put there because he would not sacrifice his integrity by worshipping someone else besides God – King Darius issued a decree that “in every part of my kingdom people must fear and reverence the God of Daniel” (Daniel 6:26).

Darius’ decree included these words:

“For he is the living God and he endures forever;

his kingdom will not be destroyed,

his dominion will never end.

He rescues and he saves;

he performs signs and wonders

in the heavens and on the earth.

He has rescued Daniel

from the power of the lions.”

Daniel’s integrity set the stage for people to see the power, goodness, and love of God.

Your integrity – and mine – can help those around us see the same attributes of God.

Let’s determine to live lives of integrity as a demonstration of our allegiance to King Jesus!
