I am privileged to get to interact with a lot of different audiences as a preacher, speaker, trainer, or coach. And one of the things I think about in my preparation is how I want to “show up” for the people with whom I will be in conversation.
So, a few years ago, I wrote myself a statement that I read before I take the stage, whatever that stage looks like. It reads like this:
“Be excited about the opportunity to add value to others, so give the audience your best, be present and focused, and show enthusiasm for the opportunity to be an instrument of peace.”
This helps me to show up in a way that is grateful, excited about the opportunity, focused on adding value to others’ lives, and doing it all as an ambassador of Christ who is called to bring peace into the world.
How do you “show up” for the people in your life?
Have you identified the ways in which you want to be present to people?
Your “audience” may be…
- your spouse
- your kids
- your coworkers
- your friends
- your extended family members
- your employees
- a small group you lead
- a class you teach
- a meeting you facilitate
- a large group to whom you’re giving a speech
Whatever and whoever your audience is, your presence will be more impactful by being purposeful about your way of being and way of relating.
So, how do you want to “show up” for others?
