A Pioneering Coach.

As the Leadership Trainer & Workplace Coach for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, I created and oversee the first-of-its-kind internal coaching program for a state agency in the history of Oklahoma state government.

A Prepared Partner.

I am a Professional Certified Coach through the International Coaching Federation and a Certified Team Coach and Certified Change Leadership Coach through the prestigious Center for Executive Coaching.

I hold two master’s degrees and multiple certifications covering such topics as organizational leadership, systems theory, conflict resolution and mediation, counseling, communication, project management, personality development, and leader-employee relationships.

An Experienced Leader.

With over 30 years experience on the frontlines of leadership, I’ve been where you are and I know the challenges of leading people and systems. I have a long list of accomplishments and an even longer list of mistakes. Through it all, I have created a track record of serving others with integrity, empathy, and wisdom and gained a reputation for helping leaders and teams maximize their potential.

  • How To Be a Good Encourager

Encouragement has a way of inspiring people to try and do things they never thought they could accomplish. It also has a way of comforting people when they are going through difficult circumstances, and maybe that’s why the ability to encourage is seen as a positive moral trait in nearly every nation. We know the…

  • A Retelling of The Prodigal Son

Several years ago, I “rewrote” the famous parable known as The Prodigal Son.  Here it is: They say that “time heals all wounds.”  I don’t know if that’s true or not, but I hope it is because I have wounded a lot of people in my life. I am the so-called Prodigal Son whom Jesus…

  • Who Wants to be Ordinary?

I’m an ordinary guy who was raised in ordinary small towns among ordinary people working ordinary jobs for ordinary pay.  And from those folks, I learned to love the ordinary.  I was taught to see beauty in the ordinary; and there is something truly beautiful in doing a job, any job, well, in helping others,…

  • How Christians Should Use Social Media

In a recent blog post, my friend Patrick Mead used a recent personal experience to illustrate that the work of Christians is to live out what we believe about Jesus.  The story goes like this: Kami and I recently were at a local restaurant for lunch. We were tired and had arrived at a place…

I love to read and learn, so periodically on this blog I will share with you some of the books I’ve been reading. Here are four that I have read recently:  Shrink: Faithful Ministry in a Church-Growth Culture by Tim Suttle. Tim Suttle has written a great book challenging the culture of “greatness” that has…
