Holy Week Prayer #2

Dear Lord,

We call this week “holy week,”

for this week Christians all over the world remember, honor, and praise your holy character, your holy will, and the sacrifice of your holy Son.

But all I can think about is how unholy I am.

I try to ease the uncomfortableness of this reality by saying that I am “imperfect” and “flawed,” and by admitting that I have made “mistakes.”

But it’s deeper than all that.

I am a sinner.

And I need a Savior…

A Savior whose love is greater than my unfaithfulness.

A Savior whose mercy is grander than my brazenness.

A Savior whose holiness is gloriously superior to my unholiness.

It is that Savior who willingly took up a cross…for my sin.

It is that Savior who allowed himself to be crucified…for my sin.

It is that Savior who sacrificed himself…for my sin.

When all I can think about is how unholy I am, I remember that Jesus went to the cross to make me holy in your sight.

And I cry, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty.”

Amen.
