Acts 9 tells the story of the unlikely conversion of Saul (whose name was changed to Paul) to Christ. When Saul tried to join the other Christ-followers in Jerusalem, they did not welcome him because they were still afraid of his well-earned reputation as a brutal persecutor of Christians.
But a man named Barnabas (whose name means “son of encouragement”) changed everything. Acts 9:26-28 tells it like this…
“And when he had come to Jerusalem, he attempted to join the disciples. And they were all afraid of him, for they did not believe that he was a disciple. But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles and declared to them how on the road he had seen the Lord, who spoke to him, and how at Damascus he had preached boldly in the name of Jesus. So he went in and out among them at Jerusalem, preaching boldly in the name of the Lord.”
Barnabas believed in Saul.
Barnabas vouched for Saul.
Barnabas stood by Saul.
And the world was changed.
Today, there may be somebody in your workplace, somebody in your neighborhood, or somebody in your family who needs someone to believe in them.
Someone to vouch for them.
Someone to stand by them.
And that someone could be you.
It may not change the world.
But it will change that one person’s world.
So, be a Barnabas to someone today.
