I’m out of shape.
This truth is painfully obvious by looking at me.
But I’m working on it!
Last Wednesday I wrote about a bold project on which I’m working, and this project is so big that it’s pushing me to be the best version of myself in every area of my life. Which means that this project has also revealed something else to me:
My spiritual muscles have also gotten a little flabby.
So, I’m thankful to be pursuing something that is forcing me to grow stronger spiritually and go deeper in my relationship with God. As 1 Timothy 4:8 says, “…for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.”
I’ve been working out spiritually by exalting God in worship and giving; encountering God through prayer and His Word; encouraging (and receiving encouragement from) others in times of fellowship; edifying others through acts of service; equipping others in their journey by sharing my gifts; and evangelizing my community through the missional proclamation of the Gospel. [Alameda members should recognize these spiritual habits as our “Six E’s” – I hope you do!]
Those purposeful actions are creating more space in my life for the Spirit of God who, in turn, gives me the strength I need to pursue big dreams for God’s Kingdom.
And I am loving the journey of getting back in shape!
But I wonder…
