From the Pit

Psalm 103:1-5 says…

“Bless the Lord, O my soul,

and all that is within me,

bless his holy name!

Bless the Lord, O my soul,

and forget not all his benefits,

who forgives all your iniquity,

who heals all your diseases,

who redeems your life from the pit,

who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,

who satisfies you with good

so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”

Yesterday, I heard this passage read in a worship service by a man who has experienced the truth of this passage firsthand.  It was so powerful to hear the words “who redeems your life from the pit” read by a person whose life has totally been redeemed from the pit of despair, hopelessness, and meaninglessness that a life of sin produces.

Now, that man is completely different.

His life is marked by love because he accepted the mercy of God.

The hurts, habits, and hangups that once controlled his life no longer define him.

His life has been renewed and his iniquity has been forgiven.

And now he takes advantage of every opportunity to share with others how Jesus can do for them what He has done for him.

Bless the Lord, indeed!
