For nearly a year, I have been mentoring a preacher in Uganda named Herman. This has proven to be one of the biggest blessings in my life, as I am learning more from him than he is learning from me.
One of the many things I appreciate about Herman is that he asks great questions. Some of the questions we have discussed have been these:
How do you stay on course (with Jesus) for a lifetime?
How do you maintain humility?
How can you manage to treat all people with respect regardless of their backgrounds?
How can you keep from being discouraged while waiting on God?
This week’s question centered around the idea of being still before the Lord, which prompted thinking about prayer.
And that’s when Herman said something that was so insightful I had to write it down and share it…
“The heartbeat of prayer is not the length of time but how much of me is there.”
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go pray!
AMEN
