This week’s Five on Friday focuses on 5 upcoming events at Alameda Church of Christ that I am really excited about. I hope you’ll consider joining us for any or all of these events. We’d love to have you!
Ray Evans Seminar – March 31-April 2
This annual event is one of the highlights of the year for me. It’s a weekend of in-depth and inspiring Bible teaching with some of the best Bible teachers in the Church of Christ fellowship.
This year’s speaker is Dr. John Mark Hicks, professor of theology at Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN. The theme is “Embracing Creation” and you can see the schedule and topics here. You can order Dr. Hicks’ book of the same title here.
Missions Sunday – April 9th
On this day, our congregation will celebrate the mission work that we are doing in various parts of the world. Alameda has a long and successful history of missions. To see the missions projects with which we are currently involved, including links to those mission efforts, click here.

Community Egg Hunt – April 9th
This is a new event for us, and I can’t wait to see how it turns out. On Sunday April 9th at 5 p.m. at Kiwanis Park in the neighborhood across Alameda street from our church building we will host an egg hunt for our neighbors and their kids. We hope this will be something that will bring this neighborhood closer together, as well as enhancing our relationship with our immediate community.
Easter Sunday/Friends’ Day – April 16th
We’ve already started inviting our friends to worship with us on Easter Sunday. We’re also letting it be known so that we can encourage each other and pray for these invitations (stop by the cross in the lobby to see what we’re doing).
Easter at Alameda includes a delicious breakfast buffet, a special time of worship with our praise team, engaging worship, an inspiring message from God’s Word, and great opportunities to make new friends and experience Christ-centered community.
Stories of Transformation with Ben Mereness – May 28
This Sunday Ben Mereness of Eastern European Mission will be with us to share some amazing stories of how God’s Word is changing people’s lives in Eastern Europe, including Muslim refugees. This will be part of a sermon series called “Transformed.”
