At Alameda, we are reading and praying our way through the New Testament book of Ephesians during a 21-Day Prayer and Scripture Experience. Today’s passage is Ephesians 4:1-6, and here’s a prayer based on that text…
My Heavenly Father,
As your servant, I desperately want to live a life that is worthy of the high calling you have given me.
In and of myself, I am not worthy of your calling; but you have deemed me worthy because of your great grace, mercy, and love.
And I want to be worthy – for you and for your glory!
So, Lord, help me to imitate the humility and gentleness of Jesus.
Help me to be patient with others.
Help me to bear with others in love, to make allowances for the faults of others as a demonstration of Christ-like love.
And I pray that others will bear with me and make allowances for my faults.
When they do, help me to see their acts of love towards me as an expression of your love for me so that I will strengthened by the presence of your love and inspired to share your love with others in return.
Lord, I want to make it my aim to be at one with your Spirit, for if I am at one in the Spirit I will inevitably be at peace with others.
And I pray for peace.
May there be peace in my family.
May there be peace in my relationships.
May there be peace in my city.
May there be peace in our nation.
May there be peace in the world.
May there be peace in your church.
May there be peace in my soul.
Make me an instrument of your peace as I confess that there is…
1 body (the church of Jesus Christ),
1 Spirit,
1 hope,
1 faith,
1 baptism,
1 God and Father of all.
You are God.
You are Father.
And I am your child.
I belong to you, and I am grateful for it.
So, Lord, help me to live a life that is worthy of being called your child.
In Jesus’ name I pray,
Amen.
